In a previous blog I talked about mistakes. I did not talk about sin, Not every mistake is a sin, most probably are not. And to live in condamnation is surely not God's will. Having that extra bite, or eating too much is not a sin, but it can become that. Drinking alcohol is not a sin, but again can become sin. And even when dealing with sin there are those that say a sin is a sin, this is not true. Some sin's although not good are not as bad as others. Stealing again is a sin, but stealing a bar of soap, or stealing a magazine, or food, is way different than robbing at gun point.
In the old testament there were bad sins, that were sins that God would not put up with and you were either banished or stoned til death. In the new testament, thanks to Jesus' death on the cross we have obtained grace. And any sin not matter the degree is pardonable, there is only one offense that is not redeemable. To blasphme the gift of God the Holy Ghost.
Before I go on, what in fact is sin? One could say that sin was breaking the law of God, just as one could break a human law and deal with a swift punishment for breaking that law. Here comes grace. God will not punish you for your sin, there is however a condition, that you turn to God, that you turn away from your sin. No matter the degree of the sin.
I must say there are those and there are churchs that portray everything as sin. Like I said somethings in moderation are not sin, such as consumption of alcohol, but to be a drunk, is very much a sin. If your life is about the next party and drinking is your escape then yes you are sinning. Sex is not a sin, though the bible says that the marriage bed is undefiled, but the fornicators and adulterers God will judge. And marriage is not defined by man, but by God. Going to concerts is not a sin, watching movies, even having and watching television is not a sin. Though what you watch may be, the bible does say put no evil before your eye, which to me says use descretion and keep kids from watching things which are not good for them and may cause them to sin. Being tempted is not sinning, having fun is not a sin. Dancing is not a sin, and so on and so forth, sin is not God's way of controlling us, but rather sins are those things which control us and keep us from God.
Sin in itself is very powerful, sin is a task master. Sin can overcome and control it's victim. Sin is like the blob, it's sits there, waiting, the devil comes along and show's us how neat sin is to play with, and when we do, sin acts very submissive and if we throw it away right away ther are no lasting effects. But if we keep it and don't get rid of it it will, although very subtle, take you over.
Drug addiction, any addiction for that matter. Alocoholism, homosexuality, promiscuis, are all form of addiction.
Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
Sin is an entity, not just an action. It will lie to you and keep you bound. It's a tool of Satan, and is very real.
Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
There is only one cure for sin, that is through Jesus Christ. He came to brake the bonds of sin to heal the broken hearted and to set the captives free. What captives? Those made captive by sin.
Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call.
